Note that many of these resources may take a conventional approach to supporting folx experiencing self-injury and/or suicidality, which means that they may be a part of, or involve and/or rely on resources from, the criminal legal system, and that the values they practice may or may not align with Joy Hertz’.

Denver:

Colorado Crisis Services – offers a walk in crisis center and can be contacted for assessment & referrals by calling the number below. (link)

Denver Walk-In Center – provides in-person, confidential crisis support, information and referrals for individuals of all ages. The Walk-In Center is located at 4353 E. Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO 80220. (link)

Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) – If you are in Denver and want to avoid engaging with the police, you might try contacting the city’s Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) program, which includes behavioral health clinicians and paramedics to engage individuals experiencing mental health distress and substance use disorders. STAR responds to low-risk calls where there are no significant safety concerns. STAR is a civilian emergency response that is dispatched by Denver 9-1-1.
